Security rules for flights from Norway

These are government security and safety rules — separate from your airline's baggage allowance. They are set by the aviation authority at your departure point, not by the airline.

  • EU cabin liquids rule

    European Commission — aviation security

Liquids, aerosols and gels in cabin baggage must be in individual containers of no more than 100 mL, presented in one transparent resealable plastic bag with a maximum capacity of 1 litre per passenger.

    Carry-on:
    Yes, within the 100 mL / 1 L framework
    Checked:
    Yes, larger containers permitted
    Container limit:
    100 mL per container
    Medication:
Essential medicines are permitted above 100 mL with supporting documentation.
    Infants:
Baby food and milk needed for the journey are permitted above 100 mL.

Some EU airports with approved C3 scanning equipment relax the rule; the airport's published rule applies on the day you fly.

  • Lithium batteries and power banks

European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA)

Power banks and spare lithium-ion batteries must travel in the cabin. Batteries up to 100 Wh are accepted without approval; 100-160 Wh requires airline approval and is limited to two spares per passenger. Above 160 Wh is forbidden in passenger baggage.

    Carry-on:
Yes - spares in carry-on with terminals protected
    Checked:
No - spare batteries and power banks are prohibited in checked baggage
    Watt-hour ceiling:
    160 Wh
    Medication:
Battery-powered medical devices are permitted; carry documentation and keep spares in the cabin.

Devices may need to be removed from bags and powered on at screening.

  • ICAO dangerous goods baseline

    International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)

ICAO Technical Instructions set the worldwide baseline that national regulators adopt: no spare lithium batteries in checked baggage, no flammable gases or liquids, no strike-anywhere matches, and e-cigarettes carried in the cabin only and never charged in flight.

    Carry-on:
E-cigarettes and vapes: cabin only, charging prohibited
    Checked:
Spare batteries, flammable liquids and gases prohibited
    Watt-hour ceiling:
    160 Wh
    Medication:
Medical oxygen and battery-powered medical devices require advance airline arrangement.

Where your departure country publishes no separate rule, carriers apply this ICAO baseline.

No. Norwegian sets the size, weight and fee allowance. Liquids, power banks and prohibited items are set by the security authority in your departure country (Norway for most Norwegian departures), and both sets of rules apply to the same bag.
